Overview/Summary of Role

In association with the LPN/RN Charge Nurse, the Resident Aide provides basic resident care under the supervision of a licensed nurse and assists in the maintenance of the unit environment to ensure safe, quality care is provided to the residents of West View Healthy Living. The Resident Aide reports to: The LPN/RN Charge Nurse

Essential Functions

  • Receives reports regarding the status of assigned residents at the beginning of the shift.
  • Gives report to supervising nurse at the end of the shift.
  • Communicates and coordinates resident care with other caregivers.
  • Reports changes in status and unusual events when they occur.
  • Attends to the physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs of the residents
  • Provides supportive care to residents at end of life
  • Performs direct and indirect resident care activities as per the plan of care and consistent with the facility's policies and procedures.
  • Practices effective communication techniques with residents, visitors, and coworkers.
  • Utilizes resident-specific information as conversation topics
  • Assists residents to receive care in a timeframe and manner according to their preferences
  • Protects residents from misappropriation, abuse and neglect, and suspected and actual abuse to the supervisor.
  • Adheres to infection prevention and control procedures.
  • Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharges of residents.
  • Documents care as necessary.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of residents' care plans.
  • Assists physicians and nurses with treatments and procedures.
  • Attends staff development activities to improve knowledge and skills and to maintain competency and certification.
  • Adheres to professional codes of ethics and Standards of Care for Assisted Living.
  • Ensures all witness reports, alleged resident abuse, misappropriation, and resident/family complaints are reported timely and that appropriate follow-up is performed immediately. Reports occurrences to the charge nurse, supervisor, ADON, DON, and/or the Administrator (LNHA), as appropriate.
  • Maintain competencies and improve knowledge and skills through continued learning and continuing education activities.
  • Other additional duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

Fulfillment of federal and individual state requirements for employment as a Resident Aide. Minimum of 6 months Resident Aide, Home Health experience in LTC/AL Facility preferred. 

Must be able to pass Pre-Employment physical, drug test, and criminal records check.

The partner must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be free of all unlawful substances and alcohol.
